General Guidelines:

  • An informational packet will be given out the day each report is assigned

  • Reports must be completely the original work of the student; students are cautioned to avoid any copying of information that might result in plagiarism

  • Reports shall be turned in on time and be of high quality diligent work

  • Each report is graded based upon a pre-determined rubric

  • The oral report given for the Mission Research Report will be used for the report card grade under the ‘listening and speaking’ section.

Book and Research Reports

Cereal Box Book Report

Students will choose a fiction book at the fourth grade level (or above) and complete a cereal box report. An informational packet and samples will be provided.

Mission Research Report

Each student will be assigned one of the 21 missions along the California coast to research, write a written report, complete a visual project, and prepare an oral report to present to the class. While many students choose to complete a model of their mission, this is only one of the possible choices for the visual portion of the report. Students will use a variety of reference sources for this report such as books, encyclopedias, the internet, visits, literature obtained from the Mission, interviews, pictures, etc.

Diorama Book Report

Students will choose a Newbery Medal book at or above fourth grade level and complete a diorama (3-d scene) and one page summary.

Biography Poster Report

Students will choose a book from the library about a historical figure and complete a poster about the figure's life. They will also use other resources such as encyclopedias and the internet to find information about their figure. A list of choices will be provided. Students will be given time in class to research and complete their posters.
